What is website traffic?

Do you know what website traffic really is and how it is measured? I am sure you have heard the word many times and have an idea about what it is. Before I tell you about the tools I want to explain what website traffic really is and how it is measured. Website traffic is web or mobile users who visits a website. When a user visits a website he or she sends and receive a lot of data through the internet. To measure how much traffic your website have, you can sign up to different analytic tools who read the data so you can get an idea of how many people actually visit your page on a daily basis, read your posts and what posts they read. You can get very useful statistics and get to know your readers better.
How much traffic is good?

When I started out my own website I had no idea what was a good number of traffic or how to generate traffic to my website. What about you? Do you know how much traffic is good for an affiliatemarketer, blogger, solopreneur, small business owner and how your traffic is measured? Do you know what to do to generate traffic to your website?
Before you start reading the analytic it is wise to have an idea of what is good, what to look for and what it means. What is a good number of traffic, readers, page views etc. If you want to grow your website you need to measure your growth and read the analytic on a regular basis.
This is some stats you should look for:
Monthly visitors:
A good small business website have around 1000 unique visitors a month. If all these visitors are organic visitors it is even better. Organic visitors are considered as Quality traffic coming to your website.
Time per visit:
A good average time visit is 2-3 minutes per user. Normally a User use 10-20 seconds.
Returning visitors:
30% is good for returning visitors. If you have 50% or more you are doing great.
Page views a month:
When you have 2500 unique Page views a month it is good.
This is the general rule. If you just started out your website you should aim for the general numbers.
There are niches where this is considered very low. One example of this is the influencer industry.
Google is the website who rank as number 1 in regard to website traffic.
What is Organic, Direct, Targeted, Paid, Bot or Random traffic?

Let us dig into this now. I am sure you maybe know this or have an idea about it but I will explain it to you just in case you are like I was. I had heard all these words many times without really understanding the difference. To me all was just traffic. Traffic is not just traffic. I have come to learn through my affiliatemarketing training that there are many types of traffic you can get to your website. I think it is useful and important to know the difference when I read my analytic. You will understand much more of your own traffic when you know this.
Organic traffic :You would want to have as much organic traffic as possible. Organic traffic is the traffic that comes when a web user search for a keyword or SEO. The user make specific goal when searching for a service, product or information.
When I wanted to start my own website I went to Google and made a search to find the best opportunity for me. I had a specific goal about my search. I Actually found the Wealthy Affiliate website doing a search on Pinterest. This was an interesting site for me so I clicked through and signed up to Wealthy affiliate. Organic traffic is much more likely to convert than other types of traffic. It will also benefit the ranking of your website. The more organic search you have the better will the search engines rank you as well. When you are new it can take up to 6 months before you get a good number of organic traffic. Organic traffic comes when you build up trust and credibility with search engines and your readers, users, customers.
Referrals : Referral traffic is traffic that is not coming from ads or search. These can be visitors coming from Google group posts, static pages on related Google sites and a various number of sources. In your analytics these visits will show up as a referral instead of organic.
Direct traffic is when someone has not been referred to your website from another website. When someone plots your URL into the search or click on a bookmarked link it will show up as direct traffic.
Targeted traffic is traffic coming from a pre – picked group of people through ads, registries, hashtags, landing pages, back links, emails and guest blogs just to mention some. To target a pre – picked group you need to know who they are. A pre – selected group can be your email list with interested readers. If you email to your list and they click on a link in that email that goes to your web page or a landing page you are generating targeted traffic.
Paid traffic comes from ads you have paid for. It can be sales campaigns, ads for webinars, ads for online courses, ads for coaching lessons, events etc. When a web user is clicking on your banners, video ads and pop up ads they send traffic data to your website as paid traffic.
Random traffic is people who visit your site accidentally while searching for something else.
Bot traffic/fake traffic: Traffic from non humans. Software automated tasks like link checkers and more.
