According to a survey done by Sprout only 25% of marketers plan to use pinterest for marketing while 29% of users are planning to use pinterest more. Comparable to this 74% of marketers are planning to use Facebook while only 68% of users are planning to use pinterest more. The whole survey shows a big difference in what marketers think of as a relevant Social media platform to use compared to what users think of as relevant.

You want to be where your customers are don't you?

Pinterest is said to grow more in the next decade. I wrote a review about how to marketing your business on Pinterest recently where I pointed to the fact that Pinterest appeals to more and more users, because they are discovering helpful and useful things and get inspired to action.

From being a person who thought Pinterest was an outdated platform I have come to love this platform more and more. I never really understood the point or the power of this platform before. But all the same I found a lot of inspiration and bought a lot of things through Pinterest. Pinterest was the reason I started my Online entrepreneur training with Wealthy Affiliate and my own website. Statista points out the fact that Pinterest convert 33% more than Facebook. Yes Facebook have much more users, but Pinterest have much more Quality users. I think this is something to think about when you choose the platform you do marketing on.

It is valuable for you as a marketer to understand who the pinners are.

As I mentioned in my previous Review Pinterest users are doers and action takers. They are emotionally inspired to action through the useful content Pinterest provides. They know it when they see it. Pinterest users are visual explorers. Pinterest users are called pinners.

According to Sprout Pinterest have a consistent stream of users who shop, learn and do social activities.

Pinterest have more than 320 million monthly active users and is growing internationally at a fast rate.

71% are women between 25 and 54 according to statista, Only 20% is men

An interesting fun fact is that American dads are super users of Pinterest. In fact, they use Pinterest 62% more than a regular pinner. And 52% of millenials are using pinterest.

How do Pinterest users think?

Let us dig into this: according to Pinterest pinners are using Pinterest with a commercial intent but have not yet made a final decision. This is where you as a marketer come in. Helping them by providing useful content to make a final decision. The pinners know what to buy when they see it. They tend to think with their emotional experience more. They are looking for a way to make their dreams to come true and they take more action on it. As a marketer this information is very valuable for you. This is exactly the type of customers you want to have.

Let us dig into it a bit more. What exactly are pinners using Pinterest for? Well according to Pinterest pinners have a different behaviour than users on other Social network platforms. Pinners are looking for helpful ideas to plan their life moments or getting the most amazing home to mention a few things. What is interesting is that 58% of pinners says Pinterest help them to decide what to buy and actually do it. Pinterest is like a magazine of visual possibilities. 52% use Pinterest for finding great recipes, food and drinks and 70% look for accessories. 85% turn to Pinterest when they want to start a new project.

You can imagine the potential of pinterest not yet discovered. Let us look at the graphic journey of a pinner according to statistics and compare it to the journey of a marketer. I have made a helpful comparison to you: Photo: Design by Daily Practice for Success made in Canva.

What is so special about Pinterest?

Photo byFoto T on Unsplash

Pinterest helps people take action. They are not a tool or not a social media platform. They are a mix of a digital magazine , Social platform and a tool. Pinterest is the place where pinners come to be inspired, visualize and dream about the future. The emotional aspect is what makes Pinterest so special. It appeals to our innermost feelings. Pinterest call this specialty discovery. Exploration inspires the pinner into action via visualization and helpful content.

Another aspect of pinterest is all the fresh content. Fresh pictures every day no one have seen before. Pinterest loves the word fresh. The more fresh content your pinterest account have the more views you will get. It is not enough to just save and re pin others content. No Pinterest wants you to be creative – to create your own fresh content. To create new emotional experiences and perspectives that is helpful to the pinner. To inspire and motivate the pinner to awareness, excitement, pleasure and joyful feelings that make them responsive. Visual impressions have this effect and the intensity, passion and spirit to make the pinner act. The pinner watch all the possible impressions, organize them, test them and use their emotional state or instinct to make a decision to buy. New things appeals to our curiosity and wanting to know and learn. New pictures gives us new experience and new perspectives on things.

What is a pin?

A pin is an idea represented in a visual manner by an image or video that is linking to some helpful or useful content.

What kind of marketing do you need to do on Pinterest?

On Pinterest you will suddenly become an emotional inspirator, motivator and provider. This is a different role than from being someone who offers something physical to suddenly offer a feeling or a perspective instead. It demands a different mindset and a different emotional state for you as well.

How do you inspire your customers?

1. By providing helpful and useful content.

2. You need to build trust because Pinners lack trust in the normal social media according to surveys.

3. Build a brand to become more visible. On pinterest 97 % of searches are still unbranded so branding yourself will give you more traffic according to Pinterest.

4. You can help them find exciting, visual ideas and to trigger a response.

  1. Hi,

    Thanks for this informative blog.

I am a content marketer myself and I use Pinterest as part of my social media marketing. Currently, I’m only at 12k views, but that is because I only use it once a week.

I agree with you that posting regularly will bump your views so much and I can’t think of other software to make the task easy other than Tailwind.

I also agree that Pinterest is very SEO driven and it would be wise to use the Pinterest search bar to optimize your Pins. Keyword planners such as Jaaxy are also a great help. I’ve been using it in conjunction with the Pinterest search bar to make sure the Pins that I create are always on top of the list.

If you don’t mind, I also want to suggest to find a very active group boards and post their regularly.

    Wish you all the best!
